The project is a playful exploration of the wine glass as a typology and an investigation into its possible new forms. The result is a collection of five objects ranging from fully functional wine glasses to experimental pieces that deliberately cross the boundary between a functional object and a free interpretation of its form.

Each object explores a different element of the traditional wine glass. Balancing Glass uses an enlarged, convex base that allows the glass to be spun like a spinning top, introducing a dynamic way of tasting wine. Before Bloom refers to the moment preceding the familiar form of the wine glass, taking inspiration from the shape of a bud just before it blooms. Free Form is created without the use of a mould—the shape of the glass emerges solely through the breath, hands and experience of the glassmaker, who responds directly to the behaviour of the material. Two variations, for red and white wine, of Comfort Glasses challenge the convention of the thin stem. Its pronounced thickness provides a more comfortable grip while simultaneously changing the visual and tactile character of the glass.

The collection was developed in close collaboration with the glassworks’ creative directors, Klára Janypková and Tomáš Kučera, who worked together with master glassmakers to translate the drawn designs into blown glass.
